Keep Athens Local: Defending Historic Heritage
Role: Graphic Design, Branding, Creative Direction
To combat a major developer's push to transform the University of Georgia's historic President's House into a commercial hotel property, I developed the "Keep Athens Local" brand identity. The grassroots campaign required an authoritative and deeply rooted visual system to rally the community and raise immediate awareness regarding the threat to their local history. Drawing direct inspiration from the estate's iconic architecture, the central logo motif utilizes a stylized representation of the building's structural pillars. This striking architectural mark is supported by a sophisticated, academic color palette featuring "Midnight Pillar" navy and "Heritage Grove" green to anchor the movement in a sense of established tradition. Deployed across responsive campaign websites, everyday merchandise, and digital collateral, the branding provided a unified and professional face for the preservation effort, empowering residents to stand together against unchecked commercial overdevelopment. Ultimately, the impactful identity helped rapidly mobilize the community, leading to a swift and decisive victory that successfully protected the historic property.
